Our Background

With over 20 years of experience working in private practice, providing on-field sports physio and working in hospitals, I have developed a holistic approach to treating my clients. From a sprained ankle, to a child suffering with asthma, to post-op rehabilitation after a stent or knee replacement, to the patient with COPD, I have sound knowledge and expertise to treat a wide range of conditions. I do not just look at one problem, but the whole patient and base my treatment about the patients goals. I am a firm believer that educating and assisting my clients to better understand their conditions and injuries can help them to make a better recovery, and improve their quality of life in the process.

I completed my undergraduate physio degree at the University of Sydney in 2002 and then went back to do a Masters of Health Science specialising in Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, completing this in 2009. I have been acknowledged as a “Titled Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapist” by the Australian Physiotherapy Association in recognition of my extra expertise in this field and invited to be a member of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. I am always learning and actively pursue to increase my knowledge by undertaking continued professional development across a range of fields including musculoskeletal and respiratory physio.

At PHYSIOHEALTH ORANGE, our philosophy is “Move well, live well, breathe easy”. I love sport and that is what led me to study physio all those years ago. I follow my mantra in my everyday pursuits and continue to play competitive team sports, run in ultra trail events and half marathons and keep strong with participation in HIIT, pilates and weights training. Keeping active and fit is a great stress reliever and helps me to keep up with my three kids too!

You can find me at my clinic – PHYSIOHEALTH ORANGE, based in Anson St, Orange. I treat patients of all ages, with widespread issues from sports injuries, back injuries, age related tendon issues, asthma and chronic disease. I focus on patient goals and trying to get you back to doing what you love as quickly as possible!

BREATHING

BREATHING is something we do 24/7. The importance of correct breathing has widespread effects on our health. COVID, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, neurological diseases, interstitial lung disease, mental health issues and simple allergic rhinitis (hayfever) can change the way we breathe and weaken certain respiratory muscles. This can lead to problems with sleep, secretion retention, snoring and breathlessness, among other issues. Learning to breathe correctly, maintain airway hygiene and strengthen the respiratory muscles can improve quality of life and also improve athletic performance. Breathing correctly can also affect facial development and teeth so it’s an important aspect of a child’s health and should not be overlooked.

BRONCHIECTASIS

Bronchiectasis is a chronic condition defined as the abnormal and irreversible dilatation of the bronchi (airways), where the supporting elastic and muscular tissue is destroyed by acute or chronic inflammation and infection. This damage impairs the natural drainage of bronchial secretions. The airways can become chronically infected resulting in mild to moderate airway obstruction. Unless appropriately managed with medical and physiotherapy intervention, the combination of infection and chronic inflammation results in progressive lung damage and reduces quality of life.

BREATHING PATTERN DISORDERS

This term encompasses many different issues with breathing and can accompany a diagnosis of asthma or other respiratory conditions. Poor breathing patterns can lead to a reduction in energy, muscle and joint pain, reduced energy, poor concentration, anxiety, digestion issues and reduced athletic performance. At PHYSIOHEALTH ORANGE we can identify pattern disorders and assist you to retrain your system back to the correct pattern. Whether you have a chronic lung condition and suffer with breathlessness or you feel you are not reaching your athletic potential despite training hard, we can help you identify the issues and guide you to fixing things. Think about it. Breathing is something you do 24/7 so it is important that you are doing it right

LONG COVID

Guidance on how much to do and parameters to function within after infection with COVID can be provided. For those with LONG COVID a graduated exercise program, managing fatigue and other associated conditions (eg.) POTS can be provided

MUSCULOSKELETAL

Injuries and day to day aches and pains can be frustrating but physio can get you back out there doing what you love ASAP. We treat many conditions including sports injuries, neck and back pain, disc injuries, tendon issues, growing pains, hypermobility, arthritis, degenerative joint disease, pre and post joint replacement surgery, deconditioning, falls and osteoporosis. Strength and conditioning programs encompassing core and whole body workouts can be tailored individually. Guidance on running technique and preparing for a race or event is also available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can physio help a lung problem?

Cardiorespiratory physio can help improve the everyday life for someone with a lung problem. There are many different strategies that can be taught to reduce breathlessness and help clear secretions. Did you know more than 70% of people don’t use their inhalers correctly? Physio can assess and advise of correct administration techniques. Spirometry measurements can be done to assess lung function. Monitoring of oxygen and carbon dioxide levels and response to exercise can be assessed.

Lung problems that we can help with include asthma, exercise induced asthma, EILO, breathing pattern disorders, vocal cord dysfunction, emphysema, COPD, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, pneumonia, pre and post lung cancer operations.

What to expect when having a physio consult.

Expect a thorough history to be taken and a holistic approach to managing your condition. Empowering the patient with knowledge to better self-manage their condition and improve quality of life is the goal.

Do you offer on the spot private health fund rebates?

Yes, there is a HICAPS machine on site to claim on the spot health fund rebates.

I have a chronic lung or heart condition – which type of appointment should book in for?

Initial consultation for a chronic condition requires a 45minute consultation.

Do you need a referral to see a physio?

No, you can book without a referral. If your GP refers you with a Team Care Arrangement, the consult must be paid for and then an on the spot rebate will be put through to Medicare using the HICAPS terminal onsite.

What to bring to an initial respiratory physio consultation.

Please bring any respiratory inhalers or medications you use. If you use a spacer or a nebuliser, please bring these too.  A list of your other past medical history and other non-respiratory medications you are taking is also helpful.

What to wear for a physio consultation.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. If you are having a respiratory or cardiac consultation, please wear a shirt that can easily be lifted to allow the physio to listen to your chest.  Sometimes an exercise test will be done, but your physio will advise you to wear suitable clothing for this if this is required.
